FAQs/Terms & Conditions

Below are our Terms and Conditions Outlined in the form of Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs). By booking this cruise, I agree that I (and all guests in my party) have read, understand, and will adhere to the statements below. I can also request a copy of this information at any time by emailing contact@sunsetcruisesofstafford.com.

Are we allowed to bring pets on board?

No, it is not safe for animals to be brought onto the ship. If you have a service animal, please contact us with what service your animal is trained for.

Can we swim?

No. While we do provide lifejackets, we do not permit swimming or any other watersports, such as fishing or rafting, while on board.

What if I need to use the restroom?

We have a small restroom in the cabin of the boat.

What if it rains?

We closely monitor the weather and do our best to communicate with guests beforehand if there is inclement weather. As a rule, we cancel and reschedule your cruise if there is lightning or bad sea conditions.

However, because we have a fully covered boat, we do not cancel if it is only raining.

We do not offer refunds on account of the weather, but guests will have the opportunity to reschedule.

Do you provide life jackets and other safety equipment?

Yes! We always have life jackets and first aid equipment handy on deck. Please make sure all passengers’ ages are given at the time of booking so that we can provide proper floatation devices.

Is the price of fuel included in the reservation price?

Yes, our cruises are all inclusive. At time of booking cruise pricing will be shared.

How do I book?
What do I need to bring?

You are not required to bring anything but yourself! We do highly recommend bringing a few items along to make the experience more enjoyable. Fully charged mobile phones (for music and pictures, of course!), any food or beverage you would like (BYOB), sunscreen, sunglasses, and weather-appropriate clothing. We do not provide coolers or ice. The boat has ample dry storage for bags and personal items. You may be asked to leave any large coolers on the dock or in your car.

Can I swim? Can I go fishing?

We will not allow swimming, fishing, or watersports. This is a site-seeing and social experience only.

Do you only offer sunset cruises?

Yes, we only offer sunset cruises. This helps us provide a consistent experience and keep costs low. That said, we always welcome you to join us for your special occasion! You are welcome (within reason) to put out a few decorations as well. You will not be allowed to tape or nail anything onto the boat.

What happens if it rains or there is bad weather?

We closely monitor the weather and make our best effort to communicate with guests clearly about weather conditions or poor water conditions. As a rule, we will cancel tours if there is lightning, poor visibility, or if there are unsafe seas (usually caused by wind). Rain or clouds are not the reason we typically cancel a cruise, but if a guest chooses, they can ask to reschedule. No refund will be given for weather cancellations, but guests will always have the opportunity to reschedule. If you insist on a refund due to a weather cancellation, you will be charged a $50 processing fee.

What time do we start? What if I am late?

During the regular season, March to September, we will usually cast off at 5:30 PM. We will adjust booking times as seasons change so pay close attention to the time you are booking your cruise. That will be the time you need to be at the dock prepared to depart. If you or anyone in your party is late, we can delay the castoff. This will reduce the time period we are on the water which will limit your experience. At the end of the day, you are expected to arrive on time and plan ahead.

How do I get through the Aquia Harbour neighborhood gate?

The Aquia Harbour Marina is a public facility. All you need to do is enter through the visitor entrance to the Aquia Harbour neighborhood and tell them you are going to the marina. They will usually give you a nod or a wave.

What if I need to cancel or change my tour date?

Life happens! If you need to cancel a cruise 72 hours before your scheduled tour time, we will work with you to reschedule that cruise for a later date at no charge. If you would prefer a refund and you are canceling prior to 72 hours before your scheduled time, we will provide a refund for a $50 processing fee. If you cancel in under 72 hours prior to your departure, we will reschedule with a $50 processing fee or we will provide a 50% (fifty percent) refund.

Do you serve food or drinks? Can I bring my own drinks/food?

We do not provide food or drink (except water for safety reasons). You may bring any food or beverages you want for the trip. Should you choose to bring alcohol, please note that you are under the command of the boat captain on the vessel. Any unruly behavior or noncompliance with safety precautions or instructions will result in an immediate end to the cruise with no refund.

Do you provide life-jackets and safety equipment?

Yes, we provide life-jackets and first aid equipment. Please ensure you provide an accurate age of all passengers so we can provide a proper flotation device.

How many people can fit on the boat?

There is a legal maximum of 4 passengers (excluding crew) allowed on the boat.

What is the cost of the cruise?

Weekday (M-TH) cruises start at $175, weekends (F-Sun) and holidays start at $225.

Tell me about the crew.

Captain Dale is a lifelong boater and avid fisherman. He is certified by the US Coast Guard and in First Aid/CPR. He thoroughly enjoys talking about the wildlife and history of the Potomac. Do not be afraid to ask questions.

Tell me about the boat.

Our vessel is a 26 foot Aqua Cruiser. In real world terms, it is a 26 foot pontoon houseboat. There is a front deck with comfortable seating for 4. There is also a cabin with a couch, table with seating, heating and air conditioning. We also have a small bathroom in the cabin of the boat. There are lights and electric outlets as needed. We reserve the right to substitute or change boats up to the time of departure. There are several reasons we may need to take out a different boat (usually maintenance), but we will do our best to notify you ahead of time and offer to reschedule if desired.
